ALISON KNOTT is an artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Knott was born in 1977 in Baltimore, Maryland. She recieved her BFA in 1999 from Rhode Island School of Design and studied at both the Maryland Insitite of Art and Pont Aven School of Art in France. Hailed for her detailed and naturalistic imagery within surreal contexts, contemporary artist Alison Knott is inspired by artists such as Francis Bacon. Obscuring her subjects through new and innovative methods, the artist depicts her figures with a visual sense of unease in sometimes turbulent atmospheres. Recognized for both her paintings and collage works, she often employs a psychedelic color palette and images of nature. These compositions emit a feeling of controlled upheaval and lawlessness, as she distorts her subjects in absurd ways. She has exhibited internationally from New York to France. Her works are included in permanent collections across the United States and in Europe.
